On Sunday May 26th at 1 PM, the newly married couple Mr. Kristoffer Aaron Hallmark McGuffey and Mrs. Michaela Elaine Chandler McGuffey went on their first vacation together as a married couple, their Honeymoon.
It was a 23 hour flight that would land them in Chicago Illinois, London England and then Edinburgh airport in Scotland.
When we arrived in Edinburgh (capitol city of Scotland) we rented a car, a Nissan Micra. We drove 3 hours to Inverness Scotland, capitol of the Highlands of Scotland. During our stay in Inverness we visited Loch Ness (only 10 miles away) and the castle at Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle. The Loch was like some magical place only seen or thought about in fairy tales. Huge rolling mist covered mountains rising up out of a foggy flowing lake of water that reflected the unbelievable shore line of green grass and castles. We took at stop when we saw a bag piper on the side of the road to castle Urquhart, tears came to our eyes as the piper named "Mort" played his bag pipes to the tune of Amazing Grace while we stood at what has to be the most beautiful place God has ever created. We stayed at the Royal Highland Hotel in Inverness for 4 days. One of the days we drove to Western Ross (the west most part of Scotland). It took 5 hours but the drive flew by as every turn was a new wondrous landscape to behold. We arrived at the castle Eilean Donan (the one seen in Highlander) and then went to the Isle of Skye bridge. We spent the rest of the time relaxing and checking out the sites in Inverness.
After our 4 days in Inverness, we drove back to Edinburgh to finish up our week in Scotland. We traded in our trusty Micra for the Edinburgh mass transit bus system. We stayed in Edinburgh for 3 days and I have to say it's one of the most amazing places on earth. It seemed like every block had a monument or cathedral spiral reaching up towards the sky and the biggest castle in Scotland overlooking the city perched on it's ancient volcano throne. Edinburgh castle was a sight to behold. We took the tour of the castle on our last day in Scotland and we got to see the crown jewels of Scotland and other historical items and locations. The Royal Jubilee was also happening at the same time (plus the World Cup) so the streets were filled with people and festivities. We also got to go to the Art Of Star Wars exhibit that is only in the U.K. right now, they had all the original costumes, props and models from the original trilogy. Also on our last day we went to a recommended restaurant in the city and had Haggis for the first time. I hate to say it, but as bad as everyone told us it was, Kaela and I really liked it.
Oh, another great thing about Edinburgh was we had just a standard room reserved at the Marriott in Edinburgh (we had the honeymoon suite in Inverness but wanted to save money in Edinburgh) but when we told the desk clerk we were on our honey moon, he bumped us up to the deluxe honeymoon suite, free of charge. It was really fantastic!
All in all I would have to say that we had the perfect honeymoon to go along with a perfect wedding. I got to go to one of the most beautiful places on earth with one of the most beautiful people in my life, my new wife.
